Step-Through E-Bike Fit: Inseam, Stand-Over & Saddle Height

Choose a step-through e-bike using more than your height. Check the exact size’s stand-over height, saddle-height range and riding position, then confirm the fit on the bike. A low frame opening helps with stepping through; it does not guarantee that the saddle can go low enough for your preferred stopping technique.

The distinction is visible in the Breeze 1 size chart below. This is a buying guide based on published measurements, not a fit assessment of an individual rider.

One step-through model, two different minimum saddle heights

Breeze 1 manufacturer geometry, reviewed October 30, 2026
Published measurement Regular Large
Suggested rider height 4 ft 11 in–5 ft 8 in 5 ft 6 in–6 ft 4 in
Stand-over height 380 mm 380 mm
Minimum saddle height 745 mm 810 mm
Maximum saddle height 945 mm 1015 mm

Source: Velotric’s Breeze 1 geometry table. Its linked geometry drawing shows saddle height measured vertically from the ground. The Large’s published minimum is 65 mm higher, although both sizes share the same listed stand-over height. These are published specifications, not our own measurements.

Our 750W, 627Wh step-through cruiser listing offers Regular and Large options. Select the size explicitly when comparing colors; do not treat the product photograph as evidence of its saddle’s minimum position.

Four measurements that answer different questions

  • Rider height: a starting point for shortlisting sizes.
  • Body inseam: the crotch-to-floor measurement used when discussing leg clearance and fit. A trouser inseam is not the same measurement.
  • Stand-over height: the manufacturer’s frame-clearance measurement at the location shown in its diagram.
  • Saddle height: a measurement whose endpoints must be stated. Ground-to-saddle figures cannot be compared directly with measurements taken from the crank’s bottom-bracket center to the saddle.

When asking a seller to measure a bike, specify the endpoints, fitted saddle and seatpost, frame size and whether anyone is sitting on it. Otherwise, two accurate measurements can still describe different things.

Measure your inseam, then use it as a conversation starter

Measure your body rather than reading a clothing label. Follow the fitting guide’s measurement method consistently, record the result and tell the fitter how you measured it. SPARTA’s frame-size guidance describes measuring from the crotch to the floor and recommends trying different sizes with expert assistance. Its general sizing formula should not replace another model’s own geometry chart.

Do not subtract your inseam from a saddle-height figure and call the result a guaranteed fit. Saddle width, shoes, posture and how you get on and off all affect the experience. Measurements can identify questions worth testing; they cannot demonstrate that you can comfortably control a particular bicycle.

What to do when two size ranges overlap

If a height chart places you in both sizes, request a comparison using the same fitting process. Avoid choosing the larger option simply because it sounds more comfortable, or the smaller option simply because the seat starts lower.

  1. Check entry and exit with the bike stationary. Have someone steady it while you step through and get into position.
  2. Have the saddle set within the permitted adjustment range. Ask the fitter to check a workable pedaling position rather than lowering it solely to reach the ground.
  3. Check access to controls. You should be able to reach and operate the brakes without stretching awkwardly. Discuss any handlebar adjustment separately.
  4. Practice starting and stopping in a suitable supervised setting. Establish a stopping and dismounting technique you can repeat confidently.
  5. Record the result. Note the size, saddle position and fitted components so the delivered setup can be checked against what you tried.

If the bike cannot provide a workable setup within its approved adjustment limits, compare another model. Cutting a seatpost or installing a different saddle is not a fit solution to assume before compatibility and manufacturer limits have been checked.

Frequently asked questions

Does step-through mean suitable for every short rider?

No. Frame clearance and seated fit are separate. Check the exact size and configuration, then verify mounting, pedaling and stopping in person where possible.

Should both feet be flat on the ground while I remain seated?

That is not a universal sizing rule. Discuss your riding experience and preferred stopping technique with a qualified fitter; ground contact and a suitable pedaling position need to be assessed together.

Can I compare minimum seat heights across brands?

Only after confirming how each is measured and which saddle and seatpost are included. Keep the measurement endpoints consistent.

Will changing the seatpost affect the fit?

It can change the available adjustment range and setup. Read our suspension seatpost compatibility guide before considering a replacement.
