E-Bike Pannier Fit: Rack Hooks and Heel Clearance
A pannier fits an e-bike only when its mounting system matches the rack and the installed bag clears the rider and moving parts. Bag volume, wheel size and an “e-bike compatible” label cannot answer that question alone. Start with the exact bike, rack and bag model, then obtain the applicable installation instructions.
There is also a model-specific purchasing detail: Velotric lists its Rear Rack Pannier Bag for the Go Mad only with a pannier support bar. A supplied rack-top bag does not establish that a side-hanging bag can be fitted without additional equipment.

Go Mad example: separate the bike from the accessory
Our Sage step-through cargo e-bike, product reference Velotric Go Mad, lists a 750W motor, 801.6Wh battery, 20 × 4-inch tires, a MIK HD-compatible rear rack and an included rack bag. These are bike specifications, not a blanket approval for every pannier.
The manufacturer's Rear Rack Pannier Bag page specifically requires a pannier support bar for Go Mad. Confirm the correct bar, bag and installation procedure before ordering. This article does not claim that the bar or side panniers are included in the NexaEbike listing.
If your question is about a top-mounted basket or adapter, use our MIK and MIK HD guide. Side-hanging bags need their own fit check.
Record the mounting details before buying
ORTLIEB's Quick-Lock documentation illustrates why the exact system matters: QL2.1 uses 16 mm upper hooks with 8, 10 and 12 mm inserts; optional 20 mm hooks accommodate larger tubes. Its lower hook is adjustable. Those dimensions describe ORTLIEB hardware, not the Go Mad rack, whose tube diameter we have not independently measured.
| Question for the seller or installer | Information to bring |
|---|---|
| Which bag and mounting-system version is this? | Product name, hardware version and instruction link |
| Can both hooks close correctly? | Tube measurement at the intended location and a photo of obstructions |
| Where does the lower retention part attach? | A side photo of the complete rack |
| Is extra equipment required? | Exact bike model and a list of included accessories |
| What is the permitted load? | Separate bag, mounting-system, rack and bike limits |

Check heel and wheel clearance together
Extrawheel's compatibility guide explains that heel clearance depends on the shoe, pedal position, bike geometry and bag shape. Check through a complete crank rotation using your riding shoes with the bike securely supported and motor assistance off. Have an installer help if you cannot assess the setup safely.
The same guide emphasizes usable hook space, lower retention and clearance from the wheel and other components. Moving a bag backward is not a solution if it prevents the mounting parts from engaging correctly. Check the intended load configuration according to the bag's instructions; loose straps and a shifting bag must stay away from moving parts.
Choose for the trip you actually make
For a laptop commute, bring your actual laptop case dimensions and decide whether you need to carry the bag indoors. For groceries, write down the bulky items you regularly buy. For a mixed-purpose bike, list the accessories you expect to use together. These simple notes make a shop conversation more useful than asking for the largest available bag.
Ask for an itemized purchase list: bike, bag, required mounting hardware and installation. Keep compatibility confirmation with your ownership records. A bag's liters describe space; they do not increase any permitted weight limit.

FAQ
Does a MIK HD rack guarantee side-pannier compatibility?
No. Confirm the specific side-bag mounting requirements separately. The Go Mad example above has an explicit additional-support requirement for the manufacturer's named pannier.
Can I assume a 16 mm hook fits this cargo e-bike?
No. A hook specification does not establish the rack's dimensions or the rest of the fit. Request measurements and model-specific confirmation.
Are side panniers pictured in this article?
No. The images show the listed bike and rack-top bag. They are AI scene illustrations, not evidence of a tested side-pannier installation.
